Special Exhibition - SOFA (Open to ALL SAQA members) • Chicago, Illinois
Deadline: June 30, 2020
SAQA has been accepted to host a special exhibit which will be held in November 2020 at the SOFA Fair.
From the SOFA website:
"The Sculpture Objects Functional Art and Design (SOFA) Fair in Chicago is the premier gallery-presented art fair dedicated to three-dimensional art and design. SOFA has evolved into a dynamic international marketplace and community – a confluence of perspectives where art, design and people intersect. SOFA is held annually in the fall at Chicago's major destination, Navy Pier, with an average of 80 dealers and 35,000 people attending. Sales at the fair are estimated at 15-20 million dollars per show."
This is not only an exciting chance to have your work displayed at this prestigious venue, it is also an unparalleled opportunity to present to the art world elite the contemporary viability of fiber as a fine art medium.
Due to booth size, only a limited number of works will be selected. Since this is a special educational exhibition (not a gallery space), no sales will be allowed at the venue.
Juror:
Jane Sauer is an internationally recognized curator, lecturer, and art consultant who now resides in St. Louis, Missouri. She has been a practicing fiber artist for over 35 years with work in over 25 museum collections, including the Renwick Gallery, the Museum of Arts and Design in New York, and the American Craft Museum. For fifteen years she was the Artistic Director and gallery owner of Thirteen Moons Gallery, later Jane Sauer Gallery, in Sante Fe. Sauer has received two National Endowment for the Arts Grants, is part of the Archives of American Arts Smithsonian Institute, and is a Fellow of the American Craft Council, having served on their Board and as Chair.
