Images and ideas embedded in my experience come forward in my hand-dyed fabric as I print and paint the dyes, and in my quilts as I stitch the pieces. Recently I am particularly interested in the interaction of lines and shapes, how they create contrast and how they work together. I am very conscious of the lines I make and their corresponding shapes—what they hide and what they emphasize. The dyeing processes I use combine with my stitching—both hand and machine—to create layers of imagery, often offering me unexpected design opportunities. I learn something new on every quilt and can’t wait to start another one. Curiosity about what the next piece will challenge me to create drives me on, and the freedom of my dyeing and sewing techniques keeps it a pleasure.
