Meet Your Representative Susan Goodman
I am a proud native Hoosier of southern Indiana. Our changing seasons bring special joys and beauty. The rolling hills, peaceful forests, rock outcrops and sparkling waters of lakes, streams, and rivers speak to my soul and inspire my work. I feel especially connected to my ancestors who have lived here for generations.
I was a traditional quilter for many years and developed a love of piecing, appliqué, and machine quilting. I love experimenting with color and design. After my retirement from public education in 2013 I began exploring my “artistic self” and discovered a whole new wonderful world.
I had always admired art quilts but thought it was something I could not do. I discovered that I can make art quilts and am learning to use new techniques and materials and have never been more energized and excited. I find inspiration everywhere but particularly in nature. Flowers, sunsets, trees, water, rocks and organic shapes captivate me. Spirals and curved shapes are some of my favorites. I am drawn to architecture, especially doors, gates, walls, fences and arches.
I especially enjoy working with hand dyed fabrics, paints, inktense pencils, threads and beads. I have taken classes with many professionals and explored different styles. I have learned something from each of them and have modified and embraced techniques to develop my own. I am blessed to have a special group of friends who support me on this journey. Together we have explored many techniques and applications and have had some wonderful times learning what we enjoy and what we don’t in using the many materials available today. I am finding my “voice” and look forward each day to creating art that challenges and satisfies me.
