Watching geologists drill core samples in Colorado’s Piance Creek Basin, I am struck by the vibrant hues and textures of our earth’s layers: ribbons of history formed millions of years ago when these high mountains were lake beds and sea bottoms. This dimensional triptych has been layered and formed as an emerging underground experience.
